Educational Programs

Our passion for educating the next generation of physicians has been, and continues to be an important area of focus for Pinkus; Pinkus' extended history of close associations with many of Michigan's institutions of higher learning, including the Wayne State University School of Medicine, the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Oakwood Healthcare System, has been instrumental in enabling hundreds of students to realize their dreams of qualifying for careers in dermatology and related fields of endeavor.

Pinkus Dermatopathology Laboratory, an Aurora Diagnostics partner held their first annual dermatopathology board of review on June 1st, 2013. The review was held at the Wayne State University School of Medicine and was an all-day event which started at 8am and finished at 4pm.

There were 24 residents in attendance representing five different training programs. Those programs were Wayne State University, Oakwood Southshore, McLaren Oakland, Henry Ford Hospital & Case Western.

Pinkus's board review consisted of providing residents 107 cases along with board-type exam questions for their practice session along with handouts for their reference. The 107 cases were broken down into sets of 3 or 4 and were rotated every 5 minutes. At the conclusion of each exam portion, each dermatopathologist spoke to the participants about the questions they were responsible for providing detail and insight into those questions. Many thanks to the Pinkus dermatopathologists that participated Dr. David Mehregan, Dr. Darius Mehregan, Dr. Viktor Goncharuk, Dr. Stephen Olsen, and Dr. Liaqat Ali.

The feedback that has been received thus far indicates that the Pinkus Board Review was a great success. The hard work from General Manager, Rebecca Roberts, and each of the pathologists was the driving force for the success of the first annual Pinkus Dermatopathology board review and the future board reviews to follow.
