Reporting Turn-Around Testing

Pinkus Dermatopathology Laboratory strives to deliver your pathology reports in one business day from the day the specimen was received in our laboratory.

Several variables may impact your turn-around testing. Reporting TAT’s vary in the method chosen to receive your reports. Mailed or hand-delivered reports may slightly increase the TAT as compared to electronic or direct reporting mechanisms.

Rarely, your office may experience a TAT delay for reasons outside of our control, such as, hazardous weather conditions experienced by our Courier(s) (UPS/FedEx).

If testing results are needed and your office has not received the pathology report, please call one of our Customer Service Representatives at 800-746-5870.

Confidentiality of Results

Pinkus Dermatopathology Laboratory strives to maintain the confidentiality of all patient information. To ensure the appropriate release of patient results in response to a telephone inquiry, at least one of the following may be required:
• Specimen identification number
• Patient Name & Date of Birth
• Social Security Number
• Name the person placing the verbal request and the phone number the results may be called to
Direct result transmission to a client’s facility via fax, printer, or electronic system is considered to be a confidential transmission. Clients are requested to enforce appropriate confidentiality requirements on the receiving end.

Critical Value Reporting

Pinkus Dermatopathology Laboratory defines melanomas as critical results. We will ensure your critical results are sent to your office as a “High Priority”. The results will be delivered via fax if your office has a fax machine. If your office does not have a fax machine, one of our Customer Support Specialists will phone your office with verbal results. If verbal results are given on critical results, a read-back to verify that the results were communicated and received accurately will be required.

In the event that critical results are obtained from a facility during hours or days when they are not open, a phone call will be placed during the next available business day.

Medical Release Authorization:

Testing results will only be released to authorized individuals. Patient results will automatically be reported to the ordering physician via the reporting mechanism chosen for your office.

If patient results need to be reported to a secondary referring physician and/or facility, a Medical Release Authorization must be completed. Patient results will not be released to a secondary referring physician or facility without a
Medical Release Authorization form on file at Pinkus Dermatopathology Laboratory.

Results will only be released to a patient when a completed Medical Release Authorization form is on file.
